By Charity Hayes | Planning a trip to Savannah this fall? Don’t stress over what to pack. Let us help you out with a few basic pointers on what to fill your suitcase with when visiting Savannah.

Autumn in Savannah is like no other. You’re getting all of the charm and history with a little less humidity. Layering this time of year in Savannah is a requirement. We start our mornings with sweaters and hoodies, then by afternoon, we’re down to short sleeves. Come evening and you’ll be ready for those sweaters again.

Leave the bulky winter coats at home. No need for scarves or hats either. Even though Savannah is a subtropical climate the fall averages are fairly mild.

We do experience a good bit of brief afternoon showers. If you’re super concerned, then definitely bring a small umbrella. Usually you can just duck into a shop or museum and wait the rain out. Stay up to date with Savannah weather here.

Be Prepared to Walk

Another must is comfortable walking shoes. Savannah is without doubt a city you’re going to want to hit the pavement in. Especially with 22 squares, multiple parks and green space throughout the city. Not to mention River Street, City Market and Broughton Street, we could browse any of these for hours.

Tybee Time?

If you’re planning a visit over to Tybee, throw in a pair of flip flops to walk the beach. The water is chilly this time of year for us, however our northern friends don’t seem to mind. You may be one of those friends, if so, then pack your suit and some sunscreen. We recommend the sunscreen anyways, this Georgia sun can be unforgiving, and we’re positive you’ll be spending lots of time outside.

Let’s Eat!

Dress clothes aren’t exactly necessary. Savannah has a plethora of restaurants to choose from, some do require a jacket and that just comes down to personal preference. However, most area establishments are casual and you’ll be just fine with pants and a collared shirt or sundress (just remember that sweater).
