Popular travel magazine Trivago has released a listing of the top ten affordable places in the U.S. to visit in the new year and Savannah made the list at #8.
Trivago tells its readers that you can “wander around historic streets in Savannah.”
“With moss covered trees, cobblestone streets, fountain filled parks and squares and stately old mansions, Savannah is a charming (and cheap) weekend getaway in Georgia. You can spend ages just wandering its historic streets and along its waterfront without spending a penny.”
They know the Hostess City well, don’t they?
Trivago noted that the average nightly rate for a double room in the city is only $177, and we all know there are lots of spots to spend your time in Savannah without spending a single penny.
We’re in some pretty good company on the list, too. Joining Savannah are Chicago, Seattle, Anaheim, Myrtle Beach, Vegas and Denver.
“Pay a visit to Forsyth Park, “Trivago said. “It dates to the mid-19th century and is the city’s largest park. The centerpiece is a circa 1858 cast-iron fountain surrounded by smaller cherub sculptures spouting water from trumpets.”
Bring a blanket, and a pack a picnic lunch for a romantic but affordable date in a beautiful Savannah setting…and don’t forget to check out the waterfront area along River Street, where browsing shops and people watching are absolutely free.
